Hunan Style Stir-Fried Tofu with Fresh Pepper

It is very typical to stir-fry foods together with fresh peppers(mostly green pepper)in Hunan cooking, this stir-fried tofu with fresh pepper is one of the most common dishes you might see on the Hunanese dining table.

Stir-Fried Tofu with Fresh Pepper

Ingredients
 
 

  • 500 g Tofu tender or firm
  • 200 g Fresh Pepper
  • 4 Cloves Garlic
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 Stalk Scallion

Instructions
 

  • Cut the tofu into slices(about 0.5cm thin), chop the garlic, and fresh peppers(separately) finely, cut scallion into pieces
  • Heat up the wok(medium-high heat), when the wok is hot enough add oil, tilt the wok until it’s evenly covered with oil, add tofu, pan-fry until both sides are golden(about 5 mins), then take the tofu out
  • Add a bit more oil, add chopped garlic, stir for 30s then add chopped pepper, stir for about 1 min
  • Add pan-fried tofu, mix everything together and stir-fry a bit longer, add 3 tbsp soy sauce, mix everything and let the tofu cook 2-3 mins, then add scallion

Notes

It is recommended to use tender tofu for this recipe as it absorbs more sauce and can be very juicy. When flipping the tofu while pan-frying, be careful not to break it.
